Metro-North trains will run on New Year's Eve holiday schedule

Metro-North Railroad will be operating trains on a special New Year's Eve schedule this weekend. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that there will be extra train services running to accommodate the influx of travelers they anticipate for the holiday. Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule. On a normal schedule, the New Haven line (which services Connecticut between New Haven and Grand Central Terminal, New York City, and the New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury branch lines) stops running out of Grand Central at 1:53 a.m. and stops running out of New Haven at 11:24 p.m.

Additional outbound trains from Grand Central Terminal will depart after midnight until 5:00 a.m. and an additional train will leave New Haven at 1:05 a.m. There will also be two additional trains out of Stamford to Grand Central after midnight on Jan. 1. 

Metro-North trains will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule with additional service on East and West of Hudson lines.

For real-time train updates, MTA suggests using either the MyMTA app or the TrainTime app. The agency also provides updates via Twitter and WhatsApp.

Piercing Connectors The agency also announced that — like every year — the consumption of alcohol on both Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad trains on New Year’s Eve will be banned. The ban will go into effect at noon on Saturday, Dec. 31 and expire on Sunday, Jan. 1 at noon. MTA announced that there would be increased police presence at Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal to enforce the ban through the holiday.
